Jan Ferdinand has published the essay ,Kulturelles Gedächtnis‘ und ,Macht der Vergangenheit über die Gegenwart‘ im Rahmen von Jan Assmanns kulturwissenschaftlicher Thanatologie. The essay has appeared in Sterblichkeit und Erinnerung, ed. by Thorsten Benkel, Oliver Dimbath und Matthias Meitzler (Baden-Baden 2022) and is available Open Access here.

On 17 March 2022 Jan Ferdinand gave a talk entitled Was heißt “Ethik” des Gedächtnisses? Überlegungen mit Luhmann. The talk was part of the annual meeting of the working group „Soziales Gedächtnis, Erinnern und Vergessen“.

On 11-12 March 2021 Jan Ferdinand gave a talk entitled „Die Toten leben in uns, wir mit den Toten weiter.” Zum Übergang vom ,kommunikativen’ ins ,kulturelle Gedächtnis’ bei Jan Assmann. The talk is part of the annual meeting of the working group „Soziales Gedächtnis, Erinnern und Vergessen“.

As part of the KCL Memory Group’s Conference “Espistemologies of Memory” on 12-13 September 2019 in London Jan Ferdinand gave a talk entitled Analysis or Legitimation of ‘Collective Memory’? Epistemological questions to the works of Aleida and Jan Assmann.

As part of the Third Annual Memory Studies Association Conference on 25-28 June 2019 in Madrid Jan Ferdinand gave a talk entitled The political Limits of ‚Collective Memory‘: Reflections on Identity, Legitimation and Values comparing the Theories of Aleida Assmann and Juergen Habermas.

On 13 October 2018 Jan Ferdinand gave a talk entitled  Vordenker kollektiver identitätsbildender Gedächtniskonstruktionen? Eine kritische Sichtung der Nietzsche-Rezeption von Aleida Assmann as part of the International Nietzsche-Congress  in Naumburg (Saale).

On 27 September 2018 Jan Ferdinand gave a talk entitled Memory as a proof of Democracy. The ,Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas’ in the light of Discourse Theory as part of the 42nd Annual German Studies Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
